Dr. Pat Fagan on The Dr J Show ep. 124

March 18, 2022

Dr. Pat Fagan is Founder and Director of the Marriage and Religion Research Institute (MARRI) at the Family Research Council (now a part of The Catholic University of America).  He is also a professional therapist specializing in child, family and marital therapy for couples considering divorce.  He publishes and edits Marripedia.org, a Wikipedia-like resource on social sciences of impact of marriage and religious worship.

Dr. Fagan has authored over thirty synthesis papers and has commissioned dozens of original research projects in marriage, family, child development and religious practice.   His decades of analyzing federal surveys and social science studies has proven that marriage is the foundational relationship in society, and fidelity is its foundational virtue.  His research has shown that the cultivation of both faithfulness and marriage is integral to all vibrant cultures.

Dr. Fagan began his career as a teacher in Ireland, then became a clinical psychologist specializing in child, family and marital therapy in Canada.  Because of his deep concerns about government undermining marriage and the family, he entered the public policy field in the U.S.

He assisted Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.), became Deputy Assistant Secretary for Family and Social Policy at the U.S. Health and Human Services under President George H. Bush, a Senior Fellow of Family and Culture at the Heritage Foundation, and a Fellow at The Austin Institute, Texas.

Dr. Fagan and his wife Theresa have eight children and twelve grandchildren.

  1. I remember well Dr. Pat Fagan from the first time you had him on the Dr. J show and have used his material often in our parent-child program, Early Catholic Family Life. From time to time I have looked to get more information from his work to introduce parents to the great benefits of weekly worship. (the measurable benefits! Thank you Dr. Fagan!) Great that you have introduced Dr. Fagan to listeners. His work is no trivial matter.
This new Dr. J show touched on many other aspects of his work and I say, “Super exciting and Inspirational” Thank you for the new info on Fathering, Wow!; the info on belonging, Wow!; the connection between the relationship of family and the Blessed Trinity, another Super Wow!; the orientation of the woman who worships to generosity in outlook compared to the non-worshiping woman; the harmful effects of contraception physiologically, politically, globally, and its roots. The teaching of the Church, etc., etc…Thank you Dr. J! I am a Ruthie and proud of it. You are super great. I have followed you for years. Bless all you are doing!
