The life and marriage issues are connected by a simple question:

Where do babies come from?

THE BATTLE FOR MARRIAGE HOLDS THE KEY TO THE BATTLE FOR LIFE

Magical thinking about sex

I am often invited to talk about abortion, though The Ruth Institute is generally known for its expertise on marriage issues more than life issues. I once debated on a college campus about gay marriage. In the course of the debate, I said, “Sex makes babies.” The person I was debating said, “No, it doesn’t.”  “Oh really? What do you mean?” She replied, “Unprotected sex makes babies.”

Contraception Causes Abortion

We’re told you can have as much sex as you want and never get pregnant. In reality, your contraception will inevitably fail. You’ll end up creating a life with someone you can’t imagine coparenting with. You perceive this situation to be impossible, so you have an abortion.

That’s how the abortion and marriage issues are linked. The promotion of contraception has led to skyrocketing out-of-wedlock pregnancy and abortion. This is the result of the lie that sex and babies are not connected.

The Sexual State

The Sexual State

Because sex and babies are naturally connected, the Contraceptive Ideology cannot stand on its own. The government must actively promote it with:

  • Aggressive sexual education in schools.
  • Forbidding school nurses from telling parents their children are pregnant.
  • Promoting contraception to welfare recipients.

"marriage

… is the right place for sex and babies, and is one of the few things that truly has the power to prevent abortion.”

-Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Ruth Institute Founder and President

Marriage saves babies' lives:

The Contraceptive Ideology is deadly because it claims babies are a choice, not a gift from God, and that an “unwanted” child is a problem to solve. The only coherent alternative to this is the ancient Christian belief system. Marriage, sex, and babies belong together. Every child is a unique gift from God.

Counting the casualties
of the sexual revolution

The lie that marriage, sex, and babies are not connected leaves many victims, including:

  • Women and men who regret their abortion.
  • Unmarried parents who would have preferred to be married.
  • Children of unmarried parents who have unstable or non-existence relationships with one of their parents.
  • Heartbroken career women who were told they could put off childbearing until after their career only to learn it’s now too late.
  • People with medical problems resulting from hook-ups, contraception, or abortion.

At the Ruth Institute, we’re helping people move from being victims to being Survivors of the Sexual Revolution. Survivors can be powerful witnesses. If you are a Survivor of the Sexual Revolution, or just want to do some good, then join the counter-revolution! You can start by following us on YouTube and Facebook and subscribing to our newsletter.
