The Ruth Institute, a pro-family research center, will co-sponsor the Speak Out Symposium in Sacramento, July 11-12, 2025. The Speak Out Symposium challenges the LGBTQ political dogma that people are “born gay” and can never change. This false dogma is the rationale for extremist bans on any therapy that allows people to question their same sex attraction.
“Since California is the state that has pioneered the use of government coercion to impose LGBTQ ideology on citizens, it’s the perfect place to push back,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, founder and president of The Ruth Institute. It is joining the Changed Movement, the California Family Council, and the Family Research Council for the Speak Out event.
Morse explained: “The LGBTQ juggernaut claims that people can change their ‘gender,’ even shift around among some 47 alleged ‘identities.’ At the very same time, the very same people insist that sexual orientation is inborn and unchangeable. This flies in the face of logic and science. We are co-sponsoring the Speak Out event, in conjunction with our month-long project of honoring people who have Left Pride Behind.”
Laws in multiple states, including California, prohibit therapists from helping people who are dissatisfied with their sexual attractions. Such laws impose harsh burdens on personal liberty, the free exercise of religion, and the right of mental health professionals to follow their consciences.
Morse concluded: “To all those who are struggling with unwanted same sex attraction, the Ruth Institute says, do not lose hope. Whatever you may be feeling today is not the final word about your identity. ‘Gay’ is not a life sentence.”
On July 11, attendees at the Speak Out Symposium will hear presentations by experts of peer-reviewed research debunking the claims of radical gender theorists. On July 12, conference participants will rally at the state Capitol. Changed Movement members will give their personal testimonies about their journey away from an LGBT identity. Participants will interact with legislators whose votes will be crucial in preserving personal, medical, and religious freedom in our nation’s most populous state.
