“Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is still spreading the myth that homosexuality is an innate characteristic ‘hardwired’ at birth,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.
“He first made the absurd claim in an NPR interview on May 14 and recently repeated it in an All-In podcast, when he said he was ‘quite sympathetic’ to the notion that ‘the sex of the person that you’re attracted to is hardwired on the day you were born.’”
Morse observed: “Although Mr. Ramaswamy has a degree in biology, this belief is not consistent with the science. There is no gay gene. That is the conclusion of the most recent and thorough examination of the human genome in 2019. The evidence from studies of identical twins is also inconsistent with the claim that sexual orientation is an inborn immutable trait. No one is born gay.”
Even the pro-homosexual American Psychological Association admitted: “There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors.”
“And yet Ramaswamy claims homosexuality is hardwired at birth,” Morse charged. “The thriving ex-gay movement refutes that dogma. How does someone change their hardwiring?”
“The Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision was premised on the belief that homosexuality is an innate characteristic, like race. Remove that prop and the entire structure collapses.”
“The nature of homosexuality plays a role in the most contentious political debates of our time, including pubic school indoctrination and whether couples who refuse to subscribe to the gay ideology will be allowed to serve as foster parents.”
“Vivek Ramaswamy has campaigned as a candidate who courageously embraces the truth, wherever it leads him. While we applaud his stand in favor of the truth, we are quite concerned that he is ill-informed on this matter. If he expects to be taken seriously, he should rethink his position on the nature of homosexuality,” Morse concluded.
