Men Matter: Ruth Inst. Replaces ‘Pride Month’ with Celebration of Masculinity

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana—“Pride month is out. Authentic masculinity is in,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, president of the Ruth Institute.

“People are fed up with ‘pride.’ I’m also fed up with mainstream society bad-mouthing men. My entire adult life, I’ve heard that masculinity is toxic, men are mean, and dads are unnecessary doofuses.”

“Scapegoating half the human race cannot solve any social problem. On the other hand, channeling male energy and enthusiasm toward protecting the weak, can solve a lot of problems.”

Men have been falling behind in education, earnings, and health for decades. There are now 2.4 million more female than male undergraduates on U.S. campuses. Men are also less likely to complete college than women. The graduation rate at four-year institutions is 54% female, 43% male. Aggressive DEI policies have marginalized qualified men from jobs.

“In spite of this,” Morse continued, “many promote ‘girl bosses’ to make women more assertive. Instead, we should show men we need them and appreciate their contributions.”

Father’s Day is observed the third Sunday of June. The Ruth Institute is expanding its celebration of men and fathers from one day to the entire month.

“Replacing ‘pride’ with fatherhood is particularly appropriate,” Morse said. “We’ve talked with formerly gay men about their father-wounds and masculinity-wounds. Healing and restoring their sense of masculinity was an essential step in leaving ‘pride’ behind. The constant denigration of masculinity as intrinsically ‘toxic’ doesn’t help anyone.”

The Ruth Institute will publish articles and interviews highlighting the importance of fatherhood and celebrating masculine strengths. The Institute is inviting its followers to share their stories of positive male influences in their lives.

“We believe public appreciation of manhood and masculinity will be a blessing to the many men struggling to find appropriate affirmation. And we hope the millions of women who love and respect the men in their lives will speak up to celebrate men, fathers, and masculinity because Men Matter.”
