Ivan Provorov, a defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers, declined to wear an LGBTQ jersey on the team’s pride night last week. The Russian Orthodox player explained that he “couldn’t stay true to myself and my religion” by participating in this farce.
“And that’s where it should have ended,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. “Instead, Provorov was subjected to an outpouring of hatred for having the courage of his convictions and religious principles. The hysteria was probably coordinated by proponents of ‘inclusion.’ One sportscaster even suggested that the player go back to Russia and take part in the war in Ukraine.”
“But it backfired. Provorov’s No. 9 Jersey has nearly sold out at several online stores,” Morse reported. “I guess some fans are reacting negatively to the bullying, and others are just plain sick of the arrogance of sexual radicals.”
“In attacking a hockey player for standing up for religious principles, it shows once again how much ordinary folks despise the sexual revolutionary agenda.”
Yet, a triumvirate has developed among government, business leaders, and activists all pushing the program of sexual radicals.
Morse explained: “Corporate America, including the management of sports teams, doesn’t seem to understand that there are consequences for embracing the woke agenda. The boardroom may pat itself on the back for its so-called tolerance. But customers and fans often react with disgust.”
“Disney found this out the hard way, when it worked to repeal a Florida law preventing teachers from discussing sexual orientation and gender issues in kindergarten through third grade. The impact is being felt in Disney’s profits.”
“Slavish devotion to the values of the sexual state is bad business,” Morse said. “If sports teams like the Flyers want to intentionally alienate their patrons, well, be my guest. As for me and all the followers of the Ruth Institute, we salute Ivan Provorov.”
