Ruth Inst. Commends Archbp. Cordileone for Upholding Sanctity of Life

On May 13, the Ruth Institute presented a dozen white roses to his Excellency Salvatore Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, for upholding the Church’s
teaching on the sanctity of life and for his defense of the Eucharist in his Pastoral Letter, “Before I Formed You in the Womb, I Knew You.”

Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., observed: “Archbishop Cordileone explained the Church’s teaching on the matter of abortion to
the public in a dignified and thoughtful manner. His teaching is clear, accurate and uplifting, all of which are necessary at the present time. The
Archbishop stands firmly for the ancient teachings of the Catholic Church on the sanctity of life and the Eucharist.”

Morse continued: “The Ruth Institute is encouraged by the strong leadership demonstrated by Archbishop Cordileone. We hope more Church leaders will follow
his example. In this time of confusion and scandal, clarity of teaching is more important than ever.”

At their meeting in June, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will reportedly take up the matter of Catholic politicians who support abortion and other social policies which clearly contradict Church teaching.

“The bishops need to decide whether these politicians, including President Biden – whose press secretary regularly refers to as a ‘devout Catholic’ – can
be allowed to continue receiving communion in light of their open and flagrant flouting of Church teaching, thereby creating the impression that their
advocacy is somehow compatible with Catholic doctrine,” Morse explained.

Past recipients of Roses from Ruth, which was started in 2016, have included Kansas City Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Bishop David Walkowiak of Grand Rapids,
Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia, Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, and Archbishop Charles Thompson of Indianapolis.

The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization, leading an international interfaith coalition to defend
the family and build a civilization of love.
