Ruth Inst. Thanks Archbishop Naumann for Defending Catholic Doctrine
Today the Ruth Institute presented a dozen white roses to Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, for his bold defense of Catholic doctrine.
“As head of the U.S. Bishops’ Pro-Life Committee, Naumann has courageously called out ‘pro-choice’ Catholic politicians,” Ruth Institute President
Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., stated. “This includes Pres. Biden and others who claim to be personally opposed to abortion, while doing everything
possible to facilitate abortion and so-called LGBTQ rights, including transgenderism.”
In a recent interview,
Naumann said, “I want to protect my people from being misled. [The president’s] actions, right now, do mislead. They do create confusion for people
in terms of what the Church believes and teaches.”
“We applaud Archbishop Naumann for consistently articulating Catholic doctrine on moral questions,” Morse said. “Others in the Church have chosen to
remain silent rather than confront a president who uses his token Catholicism to deflect criticism of his support for abortion on demand.
“The archbishop’s courageous advocacy has been condemned by certain self-styled Catholic groups, including one with an online petition demanding that Naumann be removed as head of the pro-life committee.
“In other circumstances, his critics might say that Naumann was ‘speaking truth to power’ – just as John the Baptist did when he rebuked King Herod
for his moral transgressions.”
Morse noted that while professing to be a devout Catholic, “Biden’s administration is doing everything imaginable to support abortion and abortion
funding (including repeal of the Mexico City Policy) and attack conscience rights.”
The Ruth Institute commends Archbishop Naumann as a Church leader who truly leads, regardless of the pressure to remain silent in the face of evil.
Morse explained that Roses from Ruth are “presented in gratitude for upholding the Church’s teachings on life, marriage and human sexuality.”
Past recipients of Roses from Ruth, which was started in 2016, have included Bishop David Walkowiak of Grand Rapids, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia,
Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, and Archbishop Charles Thompson of Indianapolis.
The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization, leading an international interfaith
coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love.
