Lake Charles, LA — “Fox Varian’s successful malpractice suit against her psychologist and surgeon will be the first of many victories for vulnerable youth and against the ‘transgender’ medical establishment,” stated Ruth Institute founder and president, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. “Doctors and therapists will think twice about trying to convince young people that they can change the sex of their body.”
Varian, now 22, received a double mastectomy at age 16. A White Plains, NY, jury awarded her $2 million in damages. Her psychologist and surgeon were held responsible.
Benjamin Ryan reported from the courtroom that Varian had a turbulent childhood, including the divorce of her parents and years of custody battles that left her estranged from her father.
“What came next was, not surprisingly, a slew of mental health issues, including depression and anxiety. This is not unusual for children of divorce, who are often left struggling to find their identity,” Morse noted.
“Then she was diagnosed with autism and battled eating disorders. It’s telling that the idea of ‘transitioning’ entered her mind during sessions with a psychologist. Psychologists often affirm a child’s gender dysmorphia rather than attempt to root out the cause of the gender confusion.”
Another all-too familiar story is Varian’s mother being told that if she didn’t let her daughter transition, her daughter would commit suicide.
“This emotional blackmail of parents is a psychologist’s golden ticket,” Morse said. “Convincing well-meaning parents that this is a life-or-death situation plays into the parent’s worst fears.”
Varian’s mother said the psychologist “was just so emphatic, and pushing and pushing, that I felt like there was no good decision.”
“Fortunately, the jury saw this case for what it was: a matter of greed over the well-being of a child. So-called gender transitioning is a big money maker for doctors. The Hippocratic Oath can’t compete with dollar signs,” Morse said.
“Let this case be a wake-up call to the medical community. These vulnerable kids you’ve permanently disfigured are becoming adults who now clearly see the damage you’ve done to them. It’s no wonder there are more than two dozen similar cases in courts across the country.”
“It’s time the US caught up with the UK,” Morse said. “When the explosive 2024 Cass Report detailed the harms of transitioning minors, these procedures were halted. Britain’s Tavistock Clinic, bowing to the possibility of class-action lawsuits, shuttered its doors.”
“All the gender clinics that perform surgeries in the US and around the globe should do likewise. They are irreparably harming children by making them believe attempting to change genders will solve their problems. In truth, it is impossible to change genders, and efforts to do so only exacerbate mental health conditions.”
“The Fox Varian case was a historic win. I look forward to many more victories to come.”
