Ruth Institute condemns USAID ideological imperialism

“Worse than merely waste, the USAID has been systematically exporting the Sexual Revolution to countries that do not want it,” Ruth Institute president Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. stated in response to the recent freeze on USAID expenditures.

“The American public is rightly outraged about USAID’s waste of their taxpayer dollars. But look at this from the perspective of the recipient countries and their self-determination: US foreign policy is interfering with their desire to avoid becoming as morally corrupt as the US.”

Merriam Webster defines imperialism as: “the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas.”

“US manipulation of culture through USAID funding clearly fits this definition of ‘gaining indirect control,’” Morse said.

The White House’s February 3rd list of “ridiculous” and “malicious” USAID projects included:

  • $1.5 million to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities”
  • $70,000 for production of a “DEI musical” in Ireland
  • $47,000 for a “transgender opera” in Colombia
  • $32,000 for a “transgender comic book” in Peru
  • $2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala
  • Funding to print “personalized” birth control devices in developing countries

In addition, Republican Senator Jim Banks asked the Secretary of State to investigate US agencies pressuring foreign nations into adopting abortion rights in exchange for American aid.

Morse continued. “When I spoke at a youth event in Uganda, I apologized for my country’s attempt to foist our values on them. They burst into applause.”

“I am so glad someone is finally waking up to the problems with USAID. I wish more people knew their taxpayer dollars are supporting ideological imperialism. The US is attempting to replace a country’s culture with one that pleases the palates of Western Elites.”
