Secretary of State Dismisses Findings of U.S. Commission on Unalienable Rights

“Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is typical of the Biden administration, which will push the Sexual Revolution at every opportunity,” Ruth Institute
President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., said.

Blinken repudiated the work of the U.S. Commission on Unalienable Rights established by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“He took a gratuitous swipe at the Commission, calling it ‘unbalanced,’” Morse said. “Members of the Commission included distinguished academics and
researchers. It was chaired by Harvard Law Professor and former Vatican Ambassador Mary Ann Glendon.”

Blinken said that in future reports, the State Department will emphasize “sexual and reproductive rights,” including LGBTQ.

Morse responded: “Perhaps Mr. Blinken could tell us where these words appear in the Constitution. He can’t, because they don’t. The name of the Pompeo
Commission comes from the Declaration of Independence, which says that we were ‘endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights,’ among
them ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’”

Morse added: “What Secretary Blinken calls ‘human rights’ (abortion and LGBTQ) are pseudo rights which are used to nullify authentic rights, including
speech, religion and association. In the case of abortion, they deny the right to life of unborn children.”

Actually, the final statement of the Glendon Commission never mentioned the right to life or a child’s right to a relationship with its parents.

Morse explained: “In my testimony before the Commission on February 21, 2020, and in our petition which we presented at the time — we urged the Commission to recognize the right
of every person to know the identity of, and have a relationship with, their biological parents; the right to life from conception to natural death;
and the right of parents to educate their children in their own faith tradition without being undermined by the state.

“What Blinken and the minions of the Sexual State object to are the concept of rights based on natural law, not on Supreme Court dicta or the ideology
of the Sexual Revolution.

“The Secretary of State’s passion for this ideology will be reflected in attempts to force it on emerging nations in Africa and elsewhere, which have
come to be known as cultural colonialism or ideological imperialism.” Morse warned. “This bears watching.”

In partnership with Life Petitions, the Ruth Institute circulated a petition in support of the Commission’s work which had such distinguished signers as Governor Mike Huckabee, Fr. Shenan Boquet (Human Life International),
Jor-El Godsey (Heartbeat International), Steven Mosher (Population Research Institute), and Sharon Slater (Family Watch International).

The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization, leading an international interfaith coalition to
defend the family and build a civilization of love.
