Wow this really caught my attention:

Unemployed Father of 10 Having 5 More Children

The article is about a guy who’s fathered up to 15 kids by the age of 25. There are potentially ten women involved.

I am completely mystified as to why these women are willing to bear his children. He’s not handsome, he’s not rich, he’s not employed… what is the attraction for SO many woman toward one seemingly undesirable man?

It’s not like he’s Tiger Woods, who is all of those things and more. Not that I condone his behavior, or the behavior of the women he was involved with, because I don’t. But I do understand the underlying attraction of the women towards him.

So why are those ten women in the U.K. attracted to that man? I suspect there is another incentive. The article states that the government is picking up the tab here, and not by a small margin. The parents will receive about $3,109,800 during the course of the children’s lives in various forms of aid and tax credits. (That’s the dollar equivalent of 2M British pounds.) I can’t help but wonder if the government, in its attempt to be generous and help women and their children, isn’t inadvertently promoting such behavior.

And it’s really sad that university budgets are being cut at the same time.

Questions for Your Consideration

1. What is the womens’ role here? Are they victims? Why is the article centered around the man?
2. Imagine what these kids’ reactions might be when they grow up and learn their dad is the father of many other children, most by different mothers. Do you think the parents considered the kids’ reactions before having sex? Generally speaking, are a child’s future (and unknown) reactions something parents ought to consider?
4. In your opinion, is this the sort of future most women dream about when they’re young? What is the government’s role, if any, in supporting the dreams of its youth?
