October 6, 2014 San Marcos CA—The Ruth Institute expresses its sorrow but not surprise, at the Supreme Court’s decision to allow challenges to natural marriage to stand. President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse stated, “Here at the Ruth Institute, we have known for some time that the Elites of this society have both the desire and the power to create genderless marriage, so-called gay marriage. By refusing to hear the legal challenges to the courts that have overturned state marriage laws, the judicial Elites have taken another step toward gutting the institution of marriage. ”
Dr Morse predicted that this will not be the last step in the campaign to redefine and reshape the family, using the power of the government. “Redefining marriage redefines parenthood. Governments have already begun rewriting birth certificates and marriage licenses. Children can now have three legal parents. The government will no longer be constrained by biology in its determination of parental rights and responsibilities. How this will amount to more freedom or equality for anyone, I cannot imagine.”
Marriage has traditionally been the union of one man and one woman. The essential public purpose of marriage is to attach mothers and fathers to their children and to one another. By removing the dual gender requirement from marriage, the government removes the essential public purpose of marriage and replaces it with private purposes.
“This is one more step in the Sexual Revolution of disconnecting sex from parenthood and both from marriage. The Sexual Revolution has created many, many victims, most of whom are socially invisible. I predict that a whole new batch of victims will be created by this latest power grab by the government,” said Dr. Morse. “I am heartbroken to think of the children who will be deliberately separated from their biological origins, in the name of ‘marriage equality.’”
Dr. Morse also expressed her gratitude and thanks toward all the friends and allies of marriage who have labored so hard in the legal and political vineyards, trying to defend marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman.
“I am so grateful to all our friends both institutions and individuals, who have given so much time, and talent, effort and money, to fight a battle that was so very stacked against us. Here at the Ruth Institute, we are proud to be associated with the fine men and women of all ages, races, religions and social classes, who have worked to defend the definition of marriage in our laws. We look forward to continuing to work together to educate the public about marriage, and to help heal the next round of Victims of the Sexual Revolution.”
