Cherished Beliefs of the Sexual Revolution (and How They Protect Sexual Predators)

by Jennifer Roback Morse Nov. 26, 2018 at NCRegister.com. One curious feature of the current clergy sex-abuse scandal is the reticence of the non-Catholic media to go after the predators. Many journalists in the “Legacy Media” seem to have an “anti-Catholic default” setting. One might think such journalists would leap at the chance to pile on with negative reports about the behavior of the Catholic hierarchy. Yet most secular newsrooms have been quite subdued on this issue. This situation cries out for an explanation. I propose that many people in our culture, including the media, subscribe to what I call “Cherished Beliefs of the Sexual Revolution.” These tenets of secularism have been so widely promoted, defended and accepted that they are part of the air we breathe. We don’t even recognize that we believe these ideas. Some of these ideas have specifically to do with homosexual activity and identity. Others are part of the more general ideological structure of the sexual revolution. Dissecting these ideas and correcting or even discarding them is a crucial step in getting to the bottom of the clergy sex-abuse scandal. Allow me to assist. Let me state for the record: Gross generalizations are unfair and unhelpful. I will never say “All gay men are … .” In fact, I once wrote an article called “Fifty Shades of Gay” — so I’m not about to draw rash conclusions about “gay men” from the behavior of a few. However, the over-representation of homosexual predation certainly casts doubt on what I will call the “Grand Gay Narrative.” The marketing machine for “LGBT” activism and its allies in the sexual revolution have gone to a lot of trouble to create the following impressions in the public mind: Being gay is a normal variation of healthy human sexuality. “Straight” vs. “gay” is no more significant than left-handed vs. right-handed. Gay people are “born that way.” Any problems that gay people might have are the result of “homophobia,” that is, unjust discrimination against them by society, or “internalized homophobia,” t

‘Ah-ha’ Moment about the Sexual Revolution

by Bill Dunn August 21, 2019, at Catholic365.com. Every once in a while, I have an “Ah-ha!” moment, when I read or hear something that really hits home. Recently I had such a moment when reading an essay by Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, titled, “What do Jeffery Epstein, Harvey Weinstein and Theodore McCarrick have in common?” In the essay, Roback Morse explains that the philosophy of the sexual revolution provided those three high-profile predators the cover they needed to commit their crimes for so many years. The primary tenant of the sexual revolution is this: everyone has the right to unlimited, consequence-free sex. For over half a century now, our culture has embraced the idea that people are entitled to regular sexual activity that is child-free, disease-free, and emotional heartache-free. In other words, if it feels good, do it, and then walk away with no regrets. The problem is, this view of sex is not grounded in reality. Sex is not like eating a donut or having a glass of wine. It’s not a simple little pleasure. Sex is an intensely emotional and physical experience. It is not a trifle to be toyed with. The sexual revolution says people have the right to child-free sex. But when Nature says, “Um, excuse me, reality takes precedence over wishful thinking, and you are pregnant,” people suddenly declare that killing babies is “health care” in order to maintain the charade. In the meantime, the lives of over 60 million babies have been snuffed out here in the U.S. in the past five decades. The sexual revolution says people have the right to disease-free sex. But once again, Nature says, “Ha ha, nice try, but reality says otherwise.” Gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, chlamydia, and HIV continue to plague our country, and the anything-goes sexual cheerleaders scratch their heads and wonder why. The sexual revolution says people have the right to emotional heartache-free sex. However, the reality of the situation yet again overwhelms silly notions. The emotional aspect of sexual activity is even more powerful than the

Ruth Institute President Calls for Stricter Sentencing for Convicted S*x Offender

For more information, contact: Rachel Golden info@ruthinstitute.org Update! Shortly after sending this press release, we learned that the re-sentencing hearing for Fr. Michael Guidry has been postponed until September 19. We are appalled by this delay, which only prolongs the suffering of Guidry’s victims. We call for a speedy resolution of this issue: the maximum sentence allowable by law for Fr. Michael Guidry. In April, Fr. Michael Guidry pleaded guilty in Opelousas, Louisiana, to sexually assaulting a 15-year -old boy. Guidry was sentenced to seven years in prison, out of the ten-year maximum sentence. Fr. Guidry has requested, and been granted, a hearing to reconsider his sentence. The hearing will take place July 18. Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., President of the Ruth Institute, will attend the hearing. Dr. Morse is an outspoken critic of clergy sexual abuse and cover up. She is also a passionate advocate for the victims of the sexual revolution, including victims of clergy sexual abuse. Morse believes the sentence should not be reconsidered. “The family and other victims had achieved some degree of closure and relief from the April 30th sentencing of Fr. Guidry. Going back into court undoes the sense of finality, and revictimizes those who have already been through so much,” Morse said. Morse explained: “When I say ‘victims’ — plural — I include Oliver Peyton, the immediate victim, who woke up to find Fr. Guidry performing a sex act on him. I also include Oliver’s family and the members of the community, who were shocked and disheartened by the revelation that the abuser, a priest in his 70s, had betrayed their trust.” “Lastly, I’m talking about the victims of child sex abuse everywhere who have been watching this case. Every new case, such as Fr. Guidry’s, can be a traumatic and ‘triggering’ event, especially for those who suffer PTSD symptoms. Every slap-on-the-wrist sentence revictimizes the victims. If the judge wishes to reconsider this sentence, I sincerely hope he will resentence Fr. Guidry to

Sexual Revolution Enables Abusers like Epstein and McCarrick

For more information, contact: Rachel Golden info@ruthinstitute.org “The Sexual Revolution says we’re all entitled to sex. But who actually believes such a thing? The rapist, that’s who!” –Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, President of the Ruth Institute. Ruth Institute Founder and President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse Ph.D. said that Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein and former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick were all enabled by society’s acceptance of the ideology of the sexual revolution. Writing in the July 10th National Catholic Register, Morse noted that all three were aided by “a belief system that claims that sex is an entitlement. They operated according to the tenets of the most powerful ideology in the world: the ideology of the sexual revolution.” Morse urged us to reject the rationalization that, “The rich and powerful have always been able to buy their way out of problems.” Yes, wealth, fame and power aided predators like Epstein. But the tenets of the sexual revolution softened up their victims. These tenets include: Sex is no more than a physical act. What are you ashamed of? And everyone is entitled to do whatever they can get away with. “This toxic belief system is destroying individual lives and leading to social chaos,” Morse observed. The Ruth Institute opposes this with “The Catholic belief system which tells us no one is entitled to sex. Children are entitled to a relationship with both of their parents. Women and men are entitled to the love and loyalty of their spouses.” “Our belief system of traditional Christian sexual ethics has made us Public Enemy No. 1 of the sexual revolutionaries,” Morse added. The Ruth Institute works to empower survivors of the sexual revolution – including victims of divorce, abuse and the LGBT culture. In April, the Institute held the first-ever Survivors’ Summit in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Institute has been particularly effective in researching the crisis of clerical sex abuse, with its reports on homosexuality and the priesthood being cited around the world. In a J

Ruth Institute Research on Clerical Sex Abuse Cited by Archbishop Vigano In Washington Post Interview; Jennifer Roback Morse to Appear on EWTN This Evening

For More Information, Contact: Rachel Golden info@ruthinstitute.org In a June 10 interview with The Washington Post, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano (who was Apostolic Nuncio to the United States from 2011 to 2016) cited the Ruth Institute Study on the correlation between clerical sex abuse and the number of homosexual priests. Archbishop Vigano called the Institute’s report, conducted by Fr. Paul Sullins, Ph.D. (Is Catholic clergy sex abuse related to homosexual priests) “One of the most recent and reliable studies.” The Archbishop said that in the report’s executive summary, Fr. Sullins noted: “The share of homosexual men in the priesthood rose from twice that of the general population in the 1950s to eight times the general population in the 1980s. This trend was strongly correlated with increasing child sex abuse.” Such recognition in one of the most prominent liberal newspapers in America, but one influential in the nation’s capital, was most welcome. An interview with Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse Ph.D. will be broadcast on “The World Over” with Raymond Arroyo on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) this evening at 8 pm ET. The interview will focus on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops meeting in Baltimore, where clergy sexual abuse is expected to be discussed. “Cardinal Mahony: Listen to the Survivors!” Ruth Institute Pres. Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse urges Cardinal Mahony to Read Testimony by Victims of Clerical Sex Abuse Posted on the Ruth Institute Blog

For more information: media@ruthinstitute.org. As part of its campaign to persuade Cardinal Roger Mahony to withdraw as a speaker at Los Angeles Religious Education Congress (March 22-24), Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. urged the Cardinal to read the testimony of survivors posted on the Institute’s blog, Tell Ruth the Truth. “There Cardinal Mahony will read horrifying accounts of those victimized by priests, among other predators. One woman said it’s been close to 20 years since she was repeatedly raped by a parish priest as a teenager. She suffers from PTSD and still has occasional flashbacks,” Morse disclosed. “Though she remains a loyal Catholic, she relates that ‘to this day, looking at the white collar that priests wear sometimes causes anxiety.’ How much more so when Cardinal Mahony (head of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 1985 to 2011) speaks at a Catholic educational conference where he will interact with young people,” Morse explained. Dr. Morse emphasized: “Even if the perpetrator was not a priest, the seeming indifference of Church leaders triggers painful memories for childhood sex abuse survivors. These people should be able to attend a religious education gathering without being triggered by the insensitivity of the Church, exemplified by Cardinal Mahony’s presence at the podium.” Despite an online petition and other appeals, Cardinal Mahony still seems determined to speak at the Congress. A statement released by the L.A. archdiocesan communications director says the Cardinal has “apologized for mistakes of the past.” Morse responded, “Cardinal Mahony is not acting like a man who is sorry. To call what these victims of clerical sex abuse endured ‘mistakes of the past,’ is insulting to the point of being borderline obscene.” And Cardinal Mahony was in the thick of the scandal. Says Morse, “He had a terrible record of covering up clergy sex abuse, to the extent that the Archdiocese of Los Angeles was forced to pay out $660 million in damages – the largest such settlement

Ruth Institute President Calls Response to Request That Cardinal Mahony Withdraw from Education Conference “Pathetic”

For more information: media@ruthinstitute.org. “Pathetic.” That’s how Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. characterized the response from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to the Institute’s petition calling on Cardinal Roger Mahony to withdraw as a speaker at the L.A. Religious Education Congress (March 22-24). “The Cardinal has become a symbol of the mishandling of sex abuse complaints,” said Morse. “For him to address a Catholic education conference at this time is wildly in appropriate.” Morse notes that, as head of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 1985 to 2011, “Cardinal Mahony had a terrible record of covering up sex abuse, to such an extent that the Archdiocese was forced to pay $660 million in damages – the largest such settlement in the Church’s history.” In response to a request from America magazine, Carolina G. Guevara, archdiocesan communications director, stated that Mahony “apologized for mistakes of the past” and “met personally with victims and established a Victims Assistance Office to ensure that they would receive the support to help them through the healing process.” Said Morse, “To call the horror of clerical sex abuse, and the Cardinal’s role in covering it up, ‘mistakes of the past’ is an understatement of epic proportions.” “It’s good that Cardinal Mahony met with some victims of crimes he may have helped to cover up,” Morse observed. “But, if he’d acted responsibly when he was in a position of authority, there wouldn’t be as many victims in need of healing. Guevara’s statement is a weak rationalization for inexcusable conduct that diminishes the suffering of victims. Imagine how they will feel when he speaks at a conference where he will, in part, interact with youth.” Morse added: “For the sake of victims, and the pain that never goes away, the Cardinal should do the decent thing and withdraw from the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress.” The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to fighting the Sexual Revolution and

I still carry the emotional scars

1. Have you ever had flash backs? Yes. Had the same nightmare for many years until I met my hubby. Suddenly they stopped. However, occasionally my husband will touch me or ask me to touch him as my grandfather told me to. I have to fight the vision and it was 40 years ago. 2. […]

Sadistic abuse at a young age

1. Have you ever had flashbacks? Yes. They revolve around being trapped, running away from the house (my grandmother’s house) after some times of abuse, begging my grandmother for help as she held the door while I was being trapped and wouldn’t let me out. I also have flashbacks about bleeding at night and in […]

Abuse testimony–"It’s a miserable existence."

1. I have PTSD symptoms frequently (once is enough!) and unexpectedly. I go into a zone of terror; it’s a terror that paralyzes like a deer in headlights. I cannot think rationally and those around me are not truly present to me. 2. The public discussion of the clergy abuse makes me feel physically ill, […]

Abuse victim: misplaced guilt and shame

I am a victim and survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I was 10 years old when my father began abusing me, and approximately 17 when the abuse stopped. The attempts to manipulate and punish me for my defiance in finally getting up the courage to say I didn’t “want to do it anymore” went on […]

Interview with a sexual abuse victim

1. Have you ever had flashbacks? PTSD symptoms? I don’t think I had any flashback or classic PTSD symptoms. Though as a teen I misunderstood sleep paralysis and thought I was being attacked by demons and wondered if it was related. I also felt very uncomfortable in later years sleeping in the same bed where […]

Ruth Institute Founder Asks Cardinal Mahony to Withdraw as a Speaker at the Catholic Education Conference

For more information: media@ruthinstitute.org. In the aftermath of the four-day Vatican summit on clergy sex abuse, the Ruth Institute renews its call for Roger Cardinal Mahony to withdraw from speaking at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress (March 22-24). Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. notes that while Mahony was the head of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, “He had a terrible record of covering up clergy sex abuse, to such an extent that the Archdiocese was forced to pay $660 million in damages – the largest such settlement in the Church’s history.” In a recent letter to Cardinal Mahony, Morse notes her work as an advocate for survivors of the sexual revolution, many of whom have suffered from childhood sexual abuse. “Rightly or wrongly, they see you as a symbol of the mishandling of the sexual abuse of children by the clergy,” Morse said in her letter to Cardinal Mahony. The Ruth Institute, an inter-faith, pro-family organization combatting the Sexual Revolution and clerical sex abuse, is also sponsoring a petition asking retired Cardinal Mahony to withdraw from the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, the largest Catholic gathering in the US. The Petition observes that due to Cardinal Mahony’s mishandling of the abuse scandal in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Archbishop Jose Gomez relieved him of administrative and public duties in 2013. Cardinal Mahony’s dismal record was thoroughly documented by the Los Angeles Times. Dr. Morse stated, “The Cardinal’s participation in the Religious Education Congress is an insult to the victims of clergy sex abuse, and all Catholic faithful. It is also out of step with the Church’s attempts to address the crisis, reflected in the summit at the Vatican.” Dr. Morse concluded: “Your Eminence, with all due respect to your office, show some class. Stay home from the Religious Education Congress. Your presence will be hurtful to people who have already suffered enough.” To sign the petition asking that Cardinal Mahony withdraw from the L.A.
