  1. I have a question that is written at the end of the comment section. My question began to develop after listening to your Dr. J Show with Kris & Paul Ciaccia.
The specific terminology used during the podcast that struck a chord with me was that important Church matters have been “white-washed.”
My question and hopeful dialogue with you revolve around the fact that the USCCB unofficially allows Fertility Awareness-Based Method (FABM), or Fertility Awareness Methods (FAM) language to be used by the teachers in marriage prep programs. To clarify the USCCB has not made an official statement one way or another, but nearly every family planning method on the USCCB’s website has incorporated FABM language on their organization’s website. All that is except the Creighton Model FertilityCare System.
The reason I stand strong in this position and believe dialogue should be open is that neither Humanae Vitae (HV) #21 nor the CCC 2370 use FABM language. HV’s – “Value of Self-Discipline #21. The right and lawful ordering of birth demands, first of all, that spouses fully recognize and value the true blessings of family life and that they acquire complete mastery over themselves and their emotions. For if with the aid of reason and of free will they are to control their natural drives, there can be no doubt at all of the need for self-denial. Only then will the expression of love, essential to married life, conform to right order. This is especially clear in the practice of periodic continence.”
All that said the word abstain is in HV, but not with the same emphasis on growing in virtue but the physical art of abstaining during times of fertility.

Then in the CCC 2370 “Periodic continence, that is, the methods of birth regulation based on self-observation and the use of infertile periods, is in conformity with the objective criteria of morality. These methods respect the bodies of the spouses, encourage tenderness between them, and favor the education of an authentic freedom.”

In October of 2021, I had the privilege of sitting in the USCCB’s NFP sessions in Baltimore. The language of the Catholic Church was not used in the discussion, but FABM was commonly used. My position is that the language of FABM cannot be adopted by the Catholic Church family planning teachers because FABM’s philosophy and principle teaching instructions are without a doubt contraceptive.

Here is a bit of history that I would like you to consider for discussion.
FABM/FAM has a history with Dr. Trussell (co-author with Dr. Hatcher of Contraceptive Technology) and Dr. Grimes both involved with Planned Parenthood and WHO.
From a 2005 article in the medical journal Contraception, the term FABM was described by pro-abortion
obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. David Grimes. To quote from the article, “Fertility Awareness
Based Methods can be used with abstinence from sexual intercourse. Alternatively, these methods
can be used with barrier contraceptives or withdrawal during presumed fertile times.” Even
today, Planned Parenthood’s website (2022) states: “So people use FAMs to prevent pregnancy by
avoiding sex or using another birth control method (like condoms) on those ‘unsafe,’ fertile days.”

I would cherish listening and dialoguing with someone who would take information read it, digest it, ask questions, and provide constructive feedback.

Thank you for podcasting the truth.
