Fr. Jack: With us now is Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse. She heads the Ruth Institute, which is an interfaith nonprofit organization helping defend the family and repair the damage of the sexual revolution. Her book, which is in many ways a primer on this whole world in which we’re living right now, is called the Sexual State: How Elite Ideologies Are Destroying Lives.

Dr. Morse, thanks for being with us today.

Dr. Morse: It’s always a pleasure for me.

Fr. Jack: You know, I don’t think you’re going to need an introduction anywhere in the greater Cincinnati area when you come to town sometime.

Dr. Morse: Oh, that’d be great. I’d love to come to town sometime. You guys make it happen. That would be great.

Fr. Jack: Well, I don’t know if we could ever make it happen. We’ll have to see what we can do. But, you know, I sent you a thing today I found out about Major League Baseball teams paying, there were four teams in particular paying for children to go through transgender stuff. And I thought, Good Lord, this, we can’t even get pitchers to last four innings in the major leagues.

Let’s worry about baseball and quit trying to change. Quit trying to mess with teenagers, you know? It just drives me crazy.

Dr. Morse: It’s, you know, it’s really sad how much corporate America has gone along with the whole sexual revolution. And it’s the most apparent now when we’re down to the transgender ideology, how much of corporate America has just gone along with it. And it’s sad, but sports is corporate America.

Fr. Jack: That’s just crass pandering. It really is.

Dr. Morse: That’s right. And, you know, of course, in the NBA, there are all about Nike shoes. You know, Nike, I suppose Nike. I don’t know if Nike owns the NBA, but they’re certainly a big influence on the NBA.

Fr. Jack:  China owns the NBA. Sorry, I didn’t say that there was a.

Dr. Morse: That’s where I was going with that. I didn’t say that. You didn’t say that. No. But it’s pretty it’s pretty transparent. You know, that the sports have become big business and big business is implicated in a lot of things that we as Catholics can’t go along with.

We can’t go along with slave labor in China, and we can’t go along with the mutilization of children that is going on in our country in the name of some crazy ideology, a combination of ideology and profiteering is what it looks like to me.

Fr. Jack: Well, and the thing is and this is where we do have people speaking up, but they don’t get much of a loud voice. And I think your newsletter is going to serve as a megaphone. I hope to really get the truth out regarding this just insanity that’s going on. And today in your newsletter from the Ruth Institute, you mentioned the fact of Dr. Christiane Nusslein-Volhard, I guess, huh?

Dr. Morse: That’s how you say it. I assume that’s how you say it. You’ve got a lot of German speaking folk down there in Cincinnati. They’ll straighten this out if we don’t say it correctly.

Fr. Jack: That’s right.

Dr. Morse: But yes, yes, indeed. A German biologist who is a Nobel laureate explained to people about male and female. And she said, some of these people must have missed basic biology class.

It was great. Honestly, she was great. She just didn’t mince any words whatsoever. It was great.

Fr. Jack: I wonder if they’re going to take back her Nobel Peace Prize for that.

Dr. Morse: Ha.

Fr. Jack: I’m serious.

Dr. Morse: It’s not the peace prize.

Fr. Jack: I mean the prize. The Nobel Prize.

Dr. Morse: Right. They might try. But you know what? If they did that, it’s on them. It’s they’re looking so stupid. You know, when this thing finally collapses, I think the whole thing is going to collapse because so many people have given themselves over to to non truth, you know, to, to saying we are so all in for this ideology.

We’ve made this idea ideology into our idol and we worship it and we sacrifice everything to it. So, you know, I certainly hope they wouldn’t do that. But, you know, you’re not wrong. They can certainly try. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was removed to try to make it happen. You know, you hear these other things. I can’t remember what it was.

It was something. It was o oh. Undoing the guy who after whom the telescope was named. Yes. You know, you know, because he wasn’t sufficiently gay enough and pro-gay in the 1950s or whatever, you know, it’s just this desire to rewrite history and rewrite science and basically remake reality. It feels unreal because it is unreal.

Fr. Jack: Well, and I thought I had my first direct experience with that just yesterday, Doctor, because when it happened, I was I had I have to get an eye exam tomorrow. And so I went online and, you know, instead of filling out all the paperwork and go to the doctor’s office, you do it online. And at the very lasst part, it said gender and it had male, female or other.

And if you checked other, then it says preferred pronouns. I said, Oh, for crying out loud, I’m just getting my eyes checked, you know?

Dr. Morse: Yeah, yeah. And it doesn’t exactly increase your confidence in your health care provider if they think there’s an ambiguity between male and female, right. And that that this will somehow show up in your eyes or your eye exam. Yeah. Yeah, it but but people are, people are afraid. There’s just no question.

Fr. Jack: They are very afraid. They are very, very much afraid.

Dr. Morse: Yeah. And that’s what tells you that we’re dealing with a totalitarian ideology. And as you know, you’re always so nice to mention the sexual state. But as you know, in that book, I explain that the sexual revolution is a totalitarian ideology and it has been from the beginning. And the reason is that the reason you could tell, the way you can tell, they’re trying to do something that’s impossible and they need the power of the state to keep it going.

It can’t stand on its own, you know. So whether you’re talking about making wiping out the difference between male or female, whether you’re talking about making a world where sex doesn’t make babies, whether you’re trying to create a world where children don’t really need their parents, you know, because that’s hardwired into the body that children need their parents and the parents prefer their own children to others.

These things are hardwired into the body. And we’re we have an ideology that’s at war with that. And that’s how you can tell it is a totalitarian ideology. They want to change human nature. That’s the goal

Fr. Jack: Well, and I think. We’re speaking with Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse about this, the wonderful news that a 1995 Nobel Science Award winner in Germany made to say that this gender idea is nonsense, that people retain their gender for life. And one of the things that it’s really very clear to me is that they I think there is a way the culture was worked in such a way in terms of the raising of people, the educating of people that we lack the will to stand up and say this is stupid.

Because, I mean, all it takes is one person to get two people and those two people get to more people and get and just keep doubling it and doubling it. And we’re going to say this is not real. Get out of here and we can change this.

Dr. Morse: Yes, yes. There’s so much of what you just said sparked so many things in my mind. But the one I want to mention is that for your followers, there in Cincinnati, I hope you are subscribed to the Ruth Institute newsletter. But we have recently found out that people are getting unsubscribed without realizing they’re getting unsubscribed. There’s some quirky things going on in the background of the program, so I would really encourage people to go to the Ruth Institute and sign up, subscribe to our newsletter.

And if you don’t get something within a week, contact us and we will make sure that you really get subscribed because there’s something, like I said, there’s something squirrely going on and we need all hands on deck. And I know your people like me over there, so, you know, so come on and sign up and we’ll get you something to do.

Well, the first thing I wanted to say is.

Fr. Jack: I knew we’d been hacked before. I knew you had been hacked before, but I didn’t know that they’re going in now and cutting off.

Dr. Morse: I don’t I don’t think that’s what’s going on. I think it’s a I think it’s an honest to goodness tech glitch. I really do. You know, give them the benefit of the doubt. But it doesn’t matter if you want to be signed up and you’re not getting stuff. We send out things at least once a week, sometimes more.

So if you’re not getting things regularly and you want them, by all means sign up, you know, and then if you like I said, if you don’t get them, let us know right away that that’s happening.

Fr. Jack: Dr. Morse, we can hold that thought. We’ll come back after the break and we can unpack those. Okay?

Dr. Morse: Sounds great.

Fr. Jack: Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse heads the Ruth Institute, an interfaith nonprofit organization helping defend the family and repair the damage of the sexual revolution and help to create a civilization of love. Her most recent book is called The Sexual State: How Elite Ideologies Are Destroying Lives. Dr. Morse, thanks for staying with us.

Dr. Morse: Oh, you’re so welcome. I’m always glad to talk to you. This is a highlight of my week, too, you know.

Fr. Jack: Well, well, thank you. You know what I was saying before was the fact how the culture and the media has slowly been taking away our courage and our character out of the fear of name calling. I’ll give you an example. In Cincinnati, there is a police officer and she was driving by herself in her car and she had received, I must say, negative feedback from a high school student where she didn’t know that her mic and her body camera had gone on.

Now, she was in the car all by herself, and she said some rather derogatory things and both about the people driving around her and about this person who gave her an obscene gesture. Anyway, what happened was, is because the police have to again, look at all those things, even though no one heard it except that officer in that police car.

She was fired.

Dr. Morse: Wow.

Fr. Jack: Fired. And so now, of course, what do we do? And. And the city council. Oh, she had to have been fired because she said these awful things. And I’m not saying what she said was good, but what I’m saying is that no one would have known what she had said or thought unless someone had not chosen to air this her basically talking to herself.

Dr. Morse: Right, right, right. Or if talking to yourself, if we’re going to be held accountable for every talk, every word we say to ourselves, I’m in big trouble because I talk to myself all the time.

Fr. Jack: So do I.

Dr. Morse: Drives my husband crazy talking to myself. But. But I mean, what you’re looking at here is thought control. She had bad thoughts, and so therefore, she loses her job. That’s crazy. Is anybody supporting her? Is anybody speaking out in her defense?

Fr. Jack: Well, they are. I mean, some are. Again, they’re not supporting what she said. She’s they were supporting the fact that really no one was harmed in her saying this to herself, not knowing that she was being, not knowing she had an audio tape going on. And like I said, I’m not condoning what she said, but everyone is kind of in the heat of the moment, will lose it in their car and say things that they wouldn’t say in public.

And, you know, that might be something to talk to her priest about if she’s Catholic, but it is we are so I mean, the you know, the greatest generation, my grandparents and your grandparents, you know, they stormed the beaches at Normandy and in the South Pacific, they had guns. All all they’re shooting at us right now is

we’re going to call you a name or we’re not going to like you anymore, basically, you know, or we’re going to try to take your job away. And you tell that to somebody, like I said, who faced real gunfire. They’re just laughing. If it’s wrong, it’s wrong.

Dr. Morse: Right, right. And this is the kind of thing that we were fighting to protect ourselves against. You know, we understood Nazism to be a totalitarian ideology that required thought control to keep it going. And later, some of us, not everybody, but many people in the United States, understood communism to be an ideology, a totalitarian ideology that required thought control to keep it going.

And so what I would encourage people to realize is that is that we’re in the grip of another whole set of ideologies. And, look, every ideology, when it gets right down to it, is a cover story for a power grab. Okay. So scaring people about you’re not sufficiently gay friendly or, you know, whatever it is you’re or you’re anti-woman because you don’t agree with us about abortion.

You don’t agree with us about whether contraception is harmful to women. You don’t agree with us, you’re anti-woman. That ideology that gets you to think like that, that scares everybody, that intimidates everybody. That’s a that is a totalitarian ideology that is trying to get inside their heads. And it is a cover story for a power grab. That’s what it’s all about, is a power grab.

And that reminds me what I wanted to say to you earlier on. The underlying thing, and I can say this to you because you have a philosophical background. The underlying problem here is that moral relativism has sapped everybody’s strength. That’s what has sapped our strength, that we think there’s no such thing as truth. If you say there’s something is true, then then you’re about to you’re about to open up the Inquisition and attack everyone.

You know that believing in truth is the problem. And actually the opposite is true. If nobody believes in truth, it is just the law of the strongest. It’s just a power grab, that’s all. You’ve got the innocent people, the weak people are defenseless. If there’s no such thing as truth.

Fr. Jack: Writes the Nietzsche and will to power. That is exactly what it’s all about today.

Dr. Morse: Yep, yep. And I had no formal philosophical training, father. My training is in economics, of course, as you know, which is not particularly philosophical. But in the fourth grade, I memorized the Baltimore catechism in preparation for confirmation. So that means in the furniture of my brain, I’ve got a bunch of tolmistic concepts floating around there because that was basically the summa theological for children, right?

Fr. Jack: That’s about right.

Dr. Morse: And so moms and dads, homeschoolers and anybody, whether your kids are homeschooled or not home schooled, get the old Baltimore catechism and study it and learn it. It will help you a lot. It will it will be armor. It will be protection for your mind.

Fr. Jack: You know, again, doctor, with this the fact of when we talk about truth, we talk about black and white. But nowadays everyone says no, everything is gray. And there may be in some situations, morally speaking or, you know, economically speaking, that there are ways that, okay, you got to kind of deal with what you got to deal with.

But that does not take away objective truth or objectivity.

Dr. Morse: That’s right.

Fr. Jack: I would love to see someone where truth is relative. Okay, I’m going to open up this window. You walk right out the window on the fifth floor and you tell me there’s no such thing as an objective truth of gravity.

Dr. Morse: That’s right. That’s right.

Fr. Jack: You just go on a little walk.

Dr. Morse: And basically what we’re doing is we’re making the kids do the equivalent, do it, do the social and moral equivalent of that. We’re telling the kids, you figure out for yourself whether it’s really true that sex outside of marriage is harmful to you. The church has always taught this. Every known civilization has had some limits on sexual behavior, but you go figure it out for yourself.

Go try, see how it works, you know. And that’s what we’ve been doing to the young people, you know. And the mistakes that young people can make are getting more and more catastrophic.

Fr. Jack: And unfixable.

That’s the problem.

Dr. Morse: Exactly. Exactly.

Fr. Jack: We’ve been talking today with Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse of the Ruth Institute. Dr. Morse, if people want to get your newsletter or see your Dr. J show, where can we send them?

Dr. Morse: Go to Ruth Institute dot org. And at the bottom of every single page on the website, you’ll find all the links where you can get to all our platforms and properties and subscribe to the newsletter.

Fr. Jack: Well, thank you so much for being with us today.

Dr. Morse: Thank you, Father.
